Aquaponics

Combining aquaculture with hydrophonics, Cary Takenaka has developed a system that is the largest aquaponic producer of lettuce in Hawaii. The business began 4 years ago, starting with 160,000 gallons of water in a closed system to also grow tilapia. And as another venture, a craft-type run is being made from carefully chosen sugarcane, using cultivars from the original stock grown in the islands.
